Smolen Leadership Fund
Academies @ GBDS accentuates leadership development in our students through the Leader in Me curriculum, which is based on The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey. The Leader in Me culture builds character, proactive communication, collaboration, and teamwork.
Additionally, The Academies of Music and the Arts along with the STEM Academy provide student experiences utilizing a depth of learning beyond the scope of the mainstream curriculum. These area programs create opportunities to develop leadership, academic expertise, and experiences providing an exceptional educational experience for our students.
The annual cost of this program is $5,000.
The Smolen Leadership Fund will support curriculum development, membership fees, teacher professional development, student materials, field trips, experimentation, and scholar-in-residence funding for programs in leadership, music, arts, and science. The fund will help the Academies @ GBDS initiate programs that will be recognized by Middle States Colleges and Universities.
Your support of The Smolen Leadership Fund will ensure that Academies @ GBDS students grow into independent, confident, and responsible learners.
Carole Schwack Literature Fund
The Carole Schwack Library Fund was established in honor of Mrs. Schwack’s retirement after many wonderful years of teaching English language arts. The Fund’s purpose is to continue challenging students in literature and support the GBDS library/media center with the purchase of new books each year. Carole Schwack believed that shelves containing vibrant and relevant books encourage students to read, and treasured literature as a cornerstone of her teaching. She left a legacy by exposing her students to fascinating literary works
and creative thinking.
